Dollar Dumps as Bond Market Intervention Fuels Crypto Boom
Bitcoin prices surged on Friday as investors sought safe-haven assets following Bessent's intervention in the bond market, which weighed heavily on the US dollar.
Bessent, a money manager at SkyBridge Capital, has been buying up bonds and investing heavily in the crypto space. His efforts to stabilize the bond market have led to a decrease in demand for dollars, causing its value to drop.
Bitcoin, often referred to as digital gold due to its store-of-value properties, rose by 3% on Friday to trade at around $48,000. Gold prices also climbed, reaching their highest level since April last year.
The dollar's decline has been a key driver of the price increase in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. As investors seek safe-haven assets during times of economic uncertainty, they are turning to digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum as an alternative to traditional gold.
