Dollar Weakness Sends Bitcoin Price Soaring Above $72,000
Bitcoin's price surged above $72,000 on Thursday, its highest since June 1. The rally was triggered by relief in the bond market after the White House signaled support for US Treasuries.
Pedro Fontes, a research analyst at Mercado Bitcoin, believes that this environment strengthens the case for Bitcoin. He notes that if the world's largest debt market needs support to function with greater stability, demand grows for assets that are scarce, predictable, and outside of public debt expansion.
The Dollar Index, which measures the US currency against a pool of trading partners, slid 0.88% on Wednesday to 98.77, its lowest since May. Matt Cole, founder and CEO of Strive, thinks this is part of a 'structural decline' that will continue, potentially creating a bullish environment for Bitcoin.
Today's trading session will focus on White House signals and geopolitical developments that could affect yields and influence intervention. Initial jobless claims data may provide guidance. The market's move led to $3.3 billion in liquidations, with $3 billion of those being short positions. However, the margin-borrow rate has risen to 4.6% from 3.9%, suggesting traders are reentering short positions.
