Dolly Parton Memecoins Crashed Within Minutes of Her Death Announcement
Unauthorized memecoins featuring Dolly Parton's name and image flooded cryptocurrency markets within minutes of her death announcement. The tokens, which were not endorsed by Parton or her family, quickly fell apart just as fast.
According to Protos, Solana traders began buying and selling the themed memecoins almost immediately after Parton's nephew said she had died. The tokens included names such as RIP Dolly Parton, DollyParton, Dollar Parton, and Dolly.
Protos tracked activity in about a dozen trading pairs and reported that despite generating millions of dollars in combined trading volume, most of the tokens later fell to market caps of only a few thousand dollars. Traders were left holding tokens with little apparent value and no verified connection to Parton or her charitable work.
This episode reflects a recurring crypto habit of turning celebrity deaths into short-lived speculation. Similar memecoins have surfaced after the deaths of Hulk Hogan, Ozzy Osbourne, Charlie Munger, Henry Kissinger, and Liam Payne, among others.
