Dolly Parton Memecoins Popped Up After Her Death

Country music legend Dolly Parton's death sparked a wave of memecoins bearing her likeness, which were quickly created and traded on crypto markets. Within minutes of her nephew announcing her passing on Tuesday afternoon, unauthorized Solana memecoins started trading on at least a dozen pairs.

The creators used Pump Fun, a Solana-based launchpad that allows anyone to create a tradable token for under $100 within minutes. Most of these assets crashed within minutes of their creation, despite millions of dollars in combined trading volume.

Parton's family and estate have not discussed any crypto projects, and the tokens have no utility or connection to her charitable causes. Their value exists solely as long as someone else can be found to buy them.
