Dormant 2010 Bitcoin Addresses Move, Spark Speculation Over Satoshi Connection
A group of 12 Bitcoin addresses containing a combined 600 BTC mined in March 2010 have moved their coins after more than 16 years without activity. The transferred assets were worth roughly $48 million at the time, and blockchain tracking platform Whale Alert traced the coins to 12 separate mining rewards generated during that period.
Whale Alert's analysis found no evidence connecting any of the 12 blocks to Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, which has sparked speculation over whether the addresses could have belonged to him. The conclusion is important because old Bitcoin frequently attracts outsized attention when it moves, particularly when the coins date back to 2009 or 2010.
The movement of the 600 BTC may simply be a reorganization between wallets rather than preparation for sale. While there is no evidence from the transfers alone that the holder intends to sell the Bitcoin, the immediate destination of old coins can provide insight into possible selling activity.
