Dormant Bitcoin Awakens: 600 BTC Transfers Spark On-Chain Frenzy
A significant Bitcoin movement has been detected by Whale Alert, a blockchain tracking service. The transfer involves 600 BTC, valued at tens of millions of dollars, which had been dormant since around 2010. This stash was earned during Bitcoin's early days when mining could be done on a regular laptop and the price hovered between fractions of a penny and a few dollars.
The blocks associated with this transfer date back to roughly 2010, when the 50 BTC reward per block was standard before Bitcoin's first halving in 2012. According to Whale Alert's analysis, none of the 12 blocks show any connection to the patterns associated with Satoshi, Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator.
This movement is notable due to its prolonged dormancy and sudden transfer. It's not an isolated incident; on September 6, seven addresses tied to early miners moved a combined 350 BTC, valued at approximately $28 million at the time. These transfers routed to fresh wallets with no known exchange affiliation.
The cumulative effect of these movements is a steady drip of ancient coins waking up. On-chain analysts have been tracking this trend closely throughout 2026, as substantial amounts of early-era Bitcoin from wallets dating to the 2011-2014 period show signs of reactivation.
