Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Awakens After 12 Years with $5.58M in Returns
A previously dormant wallet has reactivated on the Bitcoin blockchain after 12 years of inactivity. According to an analysis by Galaxy Research, four addresses emerged from dormancy in early 2014 and have now transferred a total of 114.39 BTC.
The transactions, which took place on August 10-11, 2026, generated returns as high as 8,000% for the holders. The assets were moved via P2SH scripts, a protocol used to create complex transaction rules.
Galaxy Research estimates that one wallet acquired its 27.85 BTC at an average price of $814 in 2014, yielding a return of 7,746%. Another wallet transferred 49.97 BTC on the same day, created in 2011.
The transactions are considered negligible compared to the overall trading scale and are unlikely to disrupt exchange liquidity or trigger significant price fluctuations. However, long-term investors should remain vigilant for potential signals of subsequent custody or sale.
