Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Cluster Awakens After 16-Year Slumber
A dormant wallet cluster that had been inactive for over 16 years suddenly sprang to life on September 5, 2026. The cluster of 12 addresses, each holding a 50 BTC block reward from March 2010, moved a combined 600 BTC into two new Native SegWit addresses.
This transfer marks the first time in nearly two decades that any of these particular coins have been moved, sparking interest among cryptocurrency traders and enthusiasts. According to Whale Alert, the blockchain transaction-tracking service, none of the blocks can be connected to Satoshi Nakamoto based on its research.
The 600 BTC has an estimated value of around $48 million at current prices, which is roughly equivalent to a Bitcoin price of between $79,500 and $80,000 per coin. This event highlights the evolving role of blockchain analytics platforms in tracing wallet clusters back through years of history and cross-referencing them against known mining patterns.
