Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Springs Back to Life with $3.23 Million Transfer
A dormant Bitcoin wallet that had lain inactive for over 14 years has suddenly transferred its entire balance of 49.97 BTC, sparking market speculation about the owner's intentions.
The transfer occurred at block 961331 and brought one of Bitcoin's oldest wallets back into the spotlight. The funds were first received on July 16, 2011, when the price of BTC was trading below $15, totaling around $500 based on an average acquisition price of just $10 per coin.
The holdings are now worth $3.23 million, a staggering 634,347% increase in value over 15 years, given Bitcoin's current value of approximately $65,000.
Large movements of such old funds are uncommon, as most early participants in Bitcoin either spent, lost, or misplaced access to their wallets. These dormant addresses periodically reactivate and often draw significant attention within the crypto community.
