Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Suddenly Moves $3.09 Million, Weakening New York Lawsuit
A Bitcoin wallet that had remained dormant since November 2011 suddenly woke up and moved $3.09 million worth of BTC on September 3, 2026.
The wallet, labeled as 'Noah Doe #38097,' transferred its full balance in a single transaction, which Galaxy Research valued at $3.09 million.
This unexpected move has weakened a New York lawsuit that seeks to treat dormant coins as abandoned property under the state's lost-and-found statute, known as Article 7-B of the New York Personal Property Law.
The plaintiffs, represented by Brooklyn firm Lewis & Lin LLC, argue that coins untouched for years can be treated like abandoned property, but this recent move proves their theory wrong.
