Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Awaken, Unleashing $15M in Value
The recent Bitcoin (BTC) market has seen an influx of long-dormant wallets coming back to life, with four inactive wallets transferring a total of $15.73 million between August 29 and September 4. This includes one wallet from 2011 that saw a staggering gain of over 2.5 million percent on its original cost.
The largest move came first, with a 146.06 BTC stash worth around $11.31 million having remained untouched since November 2013, resulting in a gain of about 12,902% from a cost basis near $595. Another wallet held 40 BTC bought at an average price near $3 in November 2011, turning roughly $120 into about $3.09 million after nearly 15 years.
Galaxy Research linked one 6.78 BTC transfer to Coinbase, which can indicate an intent to sell. However, a transfer by itself does not prove that a liquidation happened, and long-idle holdings represent supply that market participants may have treated as effectively unavailable.
