Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Awaken, Unleashing Millions in Unprecedented Gains
Six dormant Bitcoin wallets that had been inactive since 2011, 2012, and 2014 have seen significant activity in a week, transferring over $40 million worth of cryptocurrency.
According to data tracked by Galaxy Research, the six wallets transferred a total of 553.59 BTC (approximately $78,456) between August 16th and 26th. The oldest wallet was created in June 2011 at a price of around $14 per Bitcoin, with its value now exceeding 46,000 times that amount.
The most recent wallet sent 40 BTC to the German cryptocurrency exchange Boerse Stuttgart Digital, resulting in an astonishing gain of over 153 million percent. Two of the wallets bear the label 'Salomon Client Dusted', which is linked to plaintiff Noah Doe's lawsuit against the New York Supreme Court to declare over 39,000 Bitcoin addresses as abandoned property under New York state law.
The recent Coldcard hardware wallet vulnerability may have contributed to this sudden activity, with some attributing it to panic transfers by users seeking to safeguard their assets.
