Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Stir as 3,790 Sleeping Coins Move This Month
A recent surge in dormant Bitcoin movements has been observed this month, with 3,790 'sleeping bitcoins' waking up from years of inactivity. This is a significant increase compared to previous months, and it's still possible that September could break August's record for the most BTC movements.
According to data from btcparser.com, the majority of these awakenings are coming from wallets created between 2010 and 2017. The largest transfer this month involved a wallet first created on July 9, 2016, which moved 1,260.776 BTC on September 6.
The data shows that weekend days, specifically Saturdays and Sundays, account for 62% of the dormant BTC movements. This suggests that these movements may be more deliberate than spontaneous reactions to market changes.
