Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Wake Up with $1B in Transfers
A Bitcoin wallet valued at approximately $31.3 million was activated after being dormant for 12.7 years, sparking renewed interest in long-term holder activity.
The activation of this wallet, which held 500 BTC, coincided with a surge in dormant movements above 935 BTC from wallets inactive for over ten years on August 3rd.
Another dormant whale moved 16,400 BTC worth roughly $1.04 billion shortly after, fueling speculation about the timing and motivations behind these transfers.
The majority of these coins did not flow towards exchanges but were instead consolidated into newly generated addresses, raising questions about their ultimate destination.
Concerns surrounding a suspected Coldcard exploit have been raised, but wallet-level evidence has not directly linked either movement to the alleged exploit.
