Dormant Satoshi-Era Bitcoin Worth $48M Moves After 16 Years

A significant movement of Bitcoin has taken place, involving around 600 BTC (worth roughly $48 million) that had been dormant for over 16 years.

The transfer originated from addresses associated with block rewards mined in March 2010, when the per-block subsidy was 50 BTC. This period coincides with Satoshi Nakamoto's active involvement in Bitcoin's early development.

Whale Alert conducted research and found no link between these specific mining blocks and Nakamoto. The company pointed out that while the coins are 'Satoshi-era' rewards, timing alone is not enough to claim a connection to Nakamoto.

The distinction between 'old coins,' 'Satoshi-era' coins, and 'Satoshi coins' matters because narratives about Nakamoto-linked holdings often fuel speculation. The practical takeaway for traders and long-term holders is that inactivity does not necessarily imply ownership or involvement of a particular individual.
