Dow Jones Stalls at Record High
The Dow Jones Industrial Average had a mixed week, finishing August just 0.5% lower after American forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island. This sparked a response from Tehran with missile and drone attacks on bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
The index opened near 53,500 but quickly sold off to around 53,100 before recovering some ground by the close of the day.
The energy sector was mixed, with Chevron (CVX) rising while crude oil prices gained over 2%. The Brent price held above $90.00.
The Dow finished August 1.4% higher, its fifth consecutive monthly advance, but this streak is doing significant work in shaping expectations for the index's performance going forward.
