Dragonfly Backs CFTC's Proposed Market Framework for Prediction Markets
Dragonfly Partner Lindsay Lin has expressed support for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) proposed market framework, echoing the venture capital firm's long-held stance on regulation. The CFTC's proposed framework aims to clarify rules and definitions for prediction markets, which are currently in a state of regulatory flux.
According to Lin, clear standards for determining involvement in specific activities and defining 'gaming' can reduce compliance uncertainty, making it more attractive for venture capitalists to invest in relevant platforms and infrastructure. This, in turn, could accelerate the growth of the domestic event contract market in the US.
The article highlights that a similar regulatory pathway was taken with early crypto derivatives, where the CFTC gradually loosened regulated products through case-by-case clarifications and definitions, leading to the emergence of compliant exchanges and an increase in trading volume.
