Druckenmiller Doubts Dollar's Reserve Currency Status Amid Rising Debt and Crypto Gains

Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller has expressed doubts about the long-term dominance of the US dollar as the world's reserve currency. In a recent interview with Morgan Stanley, he stated that the dollar will 'probably outlive me' but may not retain its position in 50 years.

Druckenmiller's concerns are largely driven by the rapid expansion of US government debt, which has surged to over $38 trillion since pandemic-era stimulus spending. He warned earlier that this trend could be a 'debt bomb,' potentially weakening the dollar's stability over time.

The investor believes that digital assets, including Bitcoin and stablecoins, may eventually play a role in the global monetary system. While he still views much of the crypto sector as a 'solution looking for a problem,' Druckenmiller acknowledged the growing interest in Bitcoin, which has bounced back from lows around $60,000 to trade above $70,000.

Druckenmiller's comments echo those of other prominent investors, including Ray Dalio and Elon Musk, who have raised concerns about the dollar's long-term outlook. The investor suggested that stablecoins could transform global payment systems within 10-15 years, becoming faster, cheaper, and more efficient than traditional infrastructure.
