Duel Casino Refuses to Freeze Funds Linked to Coldcard Hack
A high-profile Coldcard hack has led to a dispute between Galaxy Digital and Duel Casino over nearly 230 ETH linked to the vulnerability exploit. According to Alex Thorn, Head of Firmwide Research at Galaxy Digital, Duel refused to freeze these funds even after receiving data that forensically proved they emanated from the cyber incident.
Duel's response was to ask for police contact, despite having access to incriminatory information. Thorn called this inaction 'outrageous,' stating that no police report would arrive until Monday at best. He warned that by not freezing the funds, Duel is essentially complicit in theft.
A Duel team member named Korra on X explained their policy of not freezing user funds without official confirmation of a theft from law enforcement. They suggested an exception could be made if the alleged victim sent a message from a 'hacked' address and signed an affidavit claiming they were hacked.
