Dunamu, Visa Partner on Stablecoin Payments and AI-Driven Financial Services
Dunamu, the operator of South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, has formed a strategic partnership with Visa to explore stablecoin payments and AI-driven financial services. The partnership will combine Dunamu's digital-asset infrastructure with Visa's global payment network to study stablecoin payment models, global transfers, merchant settlement, and new user experiences.
The companies have not yet selected a launch date, blockchain, or custody provider for the proposed services, which are still in the exploratory phase. Dunamu and Visa will examine business models involving Open USD (OUSD), a dollar-backed stablecoin developed through the Open Standard initiative, although it is unclear whether Dunamu will issue OUSD tokens.
The partnership also covers payment infrastructure for agentic commerce, where an AI system searches for products, selects services, and executes payments on behalf of users. Visa has been developing tools to verify AI agents and give merchants more control over automated transactions, which could connect with digital-asset settlement in the partnership's future.
Dunamu acknowledged that regulatory requirements would affect how the partnership develops, particularly in South Korea where lawmakers and regulators are still debating a stablecoin framework. The next verifiable milestone for the partnership will be a defined pilot or product announcement.
