Dutch Court Hears Case of Crypto Extortion, Kidnapping
A Dutch court heard a high-stakes case involving cryptocurrency extortion and kidnapping. On May 1, three men allegedly kidnapped and physically abused a man in Nieuw-Vennep over a $69,000 cryptocurrency dispute.
The victim was threatened with a firearm and warned that his eyes would be gouged out and fingers cut off if he didn't comply with the extortion demands. The suspects also threatened to publish humiliating footage of the victim being urinated on.
Prosecutors charged Younes B., 24, a martial arts instructor who teaches children, with leading a violent campaign and engaging in 'extremely frightening and degrading acts.' B. denied threatening the victim with a firearm and claimed he had invested money with the victim in cryptocurrency as part of a pyramid scheme.
B. expressed remorse for his actions, stating that there is no justification for what he did. The court ordered B. released under strict conditions, including mandatory supervision by the probation service.
