e-SIM Espionage: Indian Authorities Investigate Alleged Military WhatsApp Hack

Indian authorities have expanded their investigation into an alleged espionage case involving two individuals suspected of spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI. According to police, interrogation of Mohammad Sahil and Sameera has revealed a possible attempt to gain unauthorized access to digital communications linked to Indian military establishments using an e-SIM.

The alleged plan reportedly involved accessing a WhatsApp group associated with the Indian Air Force. Investigators are now examining SIM and e-SIM records, contact details, and digital activity found on the suspects' devices to determine who devised the plan and how they obtained information about military communications.

Forensic examination of the couple's electronic devices is underway, which could provide crucial information about alleged foreign contacts, digital payments, communication methods, and activities carried out through the devices. The probe has also widened to include suspected funding through gaming apps and cryptocurrency, with investigators examining transactions involving digital wallets and payment records associated with online platforms.

The police are focusing on identifying the source of the suspected funds and their ultimate beneficiaries. If the allegations are substantiated, the investigation could widen to include other suspected members of the network, as well as those allegedly behind the plan to gain access to military-related digital communications.
