eCash Fork Launches Practice Chain Ahead of Mainnet Split

The eCash fork has launched its practice chain ahead of the Mainnet split in late October. This means that test tokens (pECX) are now being produced on the Alpha chain, but these tokens will not be permanent and will not transfer to the final chain. The actual one-for-one allocation of ECX is expected to occur during the Mainnet phase.

The launch of the practice chain does not guarantee safety or security, as it only reflects planned ECX functionality and carries no market value. Mining activity on the test chain proves block creation but does not evaluate software reliability. An operational test chain leaves core operational questions open, including whether client software is secure, split documentation is complete, or transactions can execute without exposing underlying funds.

One of the key unresolved issues is replay vulnerabilities, which occur because the new network copies Bitcoin's transaction history and allows a transaction signed on the BTC chain to execute on the ECX chain. This could put users at risk if they do not have dedicated protection mechanisms in place. Mainnet deployment requires proving that users can move BTC without broadcasting identical signatures to eCash.
