ECB's Pontes Project to Enable Secure Tokenized Transactions by Autumn
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced a significant step forward in tokenized finance. Pontes, an infrastructure project designed to connect private blockchain platforms with the ECB's secure payment system, is set to become operational by this autumn.
Pontes aims to resolve the long-standing issue of regulating the monetary component of tokenized transactions using central bank-issued currency. This will provide a safe and reliable way for buyers and sellers to exchange digital assets.
The ECB's roadmap also includes Appia, a broader project aimed at creating an integrated European ecosystem for digital assets by 2028. Key features include continuous operation, 24/7, and the ability to handle multiple currencies, facilitating international transactions.
