Egorov Slams Pump.fun as 'Casino of Scams', Solana's Memecoin Market Under Scrutiny
Curve Finance founder Michael Egorov has sparked controversy in the Solana ecosystem by labeling Pump.fun as a 'casino of scams.' He expressed concerns that the platform allows speculative and potentially fraudulent tokens to be created, which can be detrimental to users. According to Egorov, Phantom wallet's hardware-wallet experience is also inferior compared to MetaMask.
Tomi204, co-founder of ClawPump, has pushed back against Egorov's criticism. He argues that Pump.fun provides infrastructure for users to make their own choices and that scam tokens are partly a result of permissionless markets and user behavior.
Pump.fun continues to generate substantial revenue despite the controversy. The platform has reportedly earned around $12 million in weekly revenue, making it the third-highest-earning crypto protocol behind Tether and Circle. It has also crossed $1.2 billion in cumulative revenue since early 2024.
