Egorov Slams Solana's Memecoin Launchpad, Criticizes Phantom Wallet Experience
Michael Egorov, founder of Curve Finance, has launched a scathing attack on two prominent Solana projects. He called Pump.fun, a memecoin launchpad, 'a casino of scams called memecoins', and criticized Phantom Wallet's hardware-wallet experience as worse than Metamask's.
Egorov argued that while the Solana Foundation does a good job supporting its ecosystem, its flagship consumer applications don't hold up to scrutiny. He specifically mentioned that connecting Phantom to a hardware wallet was difficult and ultimately had a worse experience compared to Ethereum users with Metamask.
Tomi204, co-founder of Claw Pump, responded by saying that Pump.fun only provides infrastructure and that users are responsible for using it responsibly. Egorov countered that wallets and other consumer software tend to degrade in quality as they scale up, suggesting the friction he ran into may be due to growing pains rather than a fundamental design flaw.
This exchange highlights a real fault line in the industry: whether platforms that make it easy to launch and trade speculative tokens bear any responsibility for the scams and rug pulls that inevitably follow.
