Ehrsam's Crypto Firm Taps Venezuelan Oil, Fintech Opportunities

Share

Primavera, an investment firm co-founded by Coinbase's former COO Fred Ehrsam, is targeting three Venezuelan oil fields. The assets, Boca, Guico and Guara, are currently operated by Brazilian driller Alvorada Heavy Industries.

Ehrsam has invested heavily in the crypto space throughout his career, building infrastructure with Coinbase and Paradigm. This new venture marks a significant departure from traditional crypto investments, as Primavera explores opportunities in sovereign energy assets and fintech.

The firm's strategy is not limited to oil; Ehrsam has met with senior Venezuelan and U.S. officials to discuss digital payments and financial infrastructure. The focus on Venezuela is timely, given the country's changing economic relationship with the United States.
