EigenLayer Dominates Restaking Market with $15 Billion in Value Locked
Restaking Ethereum (ETH) on EigenLayer offers users an opportunity to earn extra yield while maintaining control over Active Validated Services (AVS) selection. With 93.9% market share and $15 billion in total value locked, EigenLayer is the largest restaking protocol. Users can delegate their Lido stETH or Rocket Pool rETH to an operator to secure AVS protocols.
Manual delegation through EigenLayer provides more control over AVS selection compared to direct restaking. However, this method requires manual research into operators and their reliability. Lido's stETH rebases daily, generating ordinary income every day, while Rocket Pool's rETH increases in value against ETH instead.
Operators use delegated stake as collateral for AVS protocols and receive 10% of the rewards. Users select an operator and an AVS protocol to secure, but slashing risk is real as a mistake by an operator can cost a portion of the stake. The protocol activated slashing on mainnet on April 17, 2025.
