Eighty Days of Red Flags: Coinbase Premium Index Suggests Weakening US Demand for $BTC

The Bitcoin price has been stuck in a narrow range, but a key indicator is flashing warning signs. The Coinbase Bitcoin premium index, which tracks US investor demand for BTC, has been negative for 80 consecutive days.

This is the longest period of weakness in this metric's history, surpassing the previous record of 40 days between January 16 and February 24 of this year.

The index measures the difference between the Bitcoin price on Coinbase and Binance. A negative premium suggests weak US-based buying pressure and institutional demand for BTC.

While a return to positive territory could signal strengthening appetite from US investors, other factors such as global investor interest, ETF inflows, futures market trends, macroeconomic developments, and on-chain data continue to influence the price of BTC.
