EIP-8130: Unifying Account Standards Across All EVM-Compatible Chains

A new Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) aims to unify account standards across all EVM-compatible chains. EIP-8130, drafted by Chris Hunter of Coinbase/Base, introduces a universal account standard that brings consistent authentication, gas sponsorship, and call batching to every chain.

The proposal defines two adoption profiles: Level 1 for Ethereum mainnet and similarly structured chains, and Level 2 for high-throughput chains like Base. EIP-8130 also maintains backward compatibility through an ERC-4337 fallback mechanism, allowing chains that haven't adopted the standard natively to still process these accounts.

According to the proposal, a 63% reduction in transfer costs can be expected compared to the existing ERC-4337 model. The backers of EIP-8130 include Base, Coinbase, Optimism, and WalletConnect.
