El Reno Water Leak Tied to Bitcoin Mining Facility

El Reno officials in Oklahoma confirmed that a massive water leak occurred on private property owned by Athlon Blockchain Technology LLC, a Bitcoin mining data center facility. The leak lost over three million gallons of water and caused schools to close temporarily.

The leak originated from a fire hydrant serving a private water line on the property. Photos show server racks inside the metal buildings described as 'mobile mining containers' by the Canadian County Assessor's Office.

Athlon's website describes its facilities as 'fully equipped' with 'hydro-cooling technology.' News 4 attempted to reach Athlon, but neither of the founders listed on their website responded. A man at the property refused to provide information and referred reporters to attorneys, stating, 'There's attorneys that can answer questions for y'all.'

El Reno officials have not commented on who will be held accountable for the costs or how the leak started.
