El Salvador Sees 99.8% Drop in Bitcoin Adoption

Bitcoin's adoption in El Salvador has been underwhelming, with usage plummeting by an astonishing 99.8% since its introduction as a legal tender. In an interview on 24/7 CRYPTOCURRENCY WORLD NEWS, experts pointed to several factors contributing to this decline, including the high volatility of Bitcoin's price and the IMF's warning about the economic implications of adopting cryptocurrency as a national currency.

The IMF had cautioned that using Bitcoin as a legal tender could lead to higher inflation, lower tax revenues, and increased vulnerability to financial crises. Despite these warnings, El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele remained committed to his vision of a 'Bitcoin-fueled economy', which has not materialized as expected.

The HODL (Hold On for Dear Life) strategy, popular among Bitcoin enthusiasts, may also be contributing to the low adoption rate. As one expert noted, 'many people are holding onto their Bitcoin, but not using it, due to its volatility and lack of widespread acceptance.'
