El Salvador Stops Publicly Funded Bitcoin Purchases

El Salvador's Bitcoin strategy has undergone significant changes, according to a recent disclosure to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The fund has confirmed that publicly funded Bitcoin purchases stopped in June 2025, after which all additional BTC additions came from private donations.

The IMF expects no further accumulation of Bitcoin beyond what has already been documented. This shift in strategy means that El Salvador's reported Bitcoin holdings can no longer be used as evidence of government demand.

The country still holds its existing 7,764 BTC position and remains exposed to changes in Bitcoin's value. However, it is no longer adding to that exposure through government-funded purchases.
