El Salvador's Bitcoin strategy is facing its biggest test yet as the country heads into a presidential election in 2027. The National Bitcoin Office has been quietly purchasing roughly one BTC every day, with national holdings now standing at around 7,725.37 BTC as of July 27.

This steady accumulation plan remains intact despite changes to regulations. However, both candidates from the opposition have criticized President Nayib Bukele's Bitcoin strategy, describing it as a fiscal failure rather than an economic success.

The Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) selected former lawmaker Maytee Iraheta for the 2027 presidential race, while the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) nominated physician and union leader Rafael Aguirre. Both candidates have openly criticized Bukele's Bitcoin strategy.
