ElizaOS Shut Down Amid Token Crash and Lawsuit Fallout
ElizaOS has been shut down by its founder Shaw Walters after a tumultuous journey that saw the project's token plummet from a $2.6 billion peak to a legacy contract worth just $358,000.
The AI agent project, initially launched as ai16z on Solana in October 2024, was rebranded to ElizaOS in January 2025 following a dispute with venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz over the use of its name.
Walters has stated that he is done fighting for the token side of the project and is moving on to something new, citing a federal class action lawsuit brought by Burwick Law as a major contributor to the project's demise.
The plaintiffs claimed that the project was not governed by an autonomous AI agent as it claimed, but rather by humans. Walters has consistently disputed these allegations.
