Emirates Airlines Becomes One of the First Airlines to Accept Cryptocurrencies as Payment
The Dubai-based Emirates Airlines has become one of the first airlines in the world to accept cryptocurrencies as payment. Starting immediately, customers can pay for flights and in-flight services using Shiba Inu (SHIB) or any of the 29 other supported cryptocurrencies via the Crypto.com Pay app.
The move is part of Dubai's Cashless Strategy under the D33 Economic Agenda, which aims to make digital payments accessible to travelers. Eligible UAE residents can book flights priced and settled in Emirati Dirham (AED) using their chosen cryptocurrency.
Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, said that this initiative delivers on the airline's commitment to expanding customer choice in how they pay for travel. He noted that younger travelers expect airlines to keep pace with rapidly evolving payment preferences.
