ERC-8161 Revolutionizes Asynchronous Vault Trading with Transferable Positions
Centrifuge has finalized ERC-8161, an Ethereum standard that allows multi-asset vault positions to trade before settlement. This innovation solves a long-standing problem in the space of asynchronous vaults, where investors would often have to wait for epochs to close before accessing their funds.
The new standard builds on top of existing protocols like ERC-7540 and ERC-7575, which introduced asynchronous claim flows and multi-asset support. ERC-8161 takes pending requests created under these standards and makes them transferable assets in their own right.
This means that investors can now sell their place in line for a redemption queue position in a vault holding tokenized commercial real estate debt, for example. The buyer picks up the position, while the seller gets liquidity.
