ERC-8392 Proposes Common Status Interface for Tokenized Stocks

Ethereum developer Eric Conner has proposed an asset status interface for tokenized stocks and real-world assets. The proposal, titled ERC-8392, aims to provide a common standard for contracts to check market sessions, trading halts, valuation status, and redemption availability.

Conner's proposal addresses the mismatch between continuous blockchain activity and traditional markets' limited operating hours. Tokenized stocks can trade continuously while their reference shares may not be available on an exchange. This discrepancy can lead to stale prices during closures or feed failures, making it difficult for smart contracts to respond correctly.

The proposed interface separates expected stale prices from delayed or failed valuation updates. It also includes separate queries for market status, valuation status, and redemption availability. The draft has been reviewed on paper against various conditions, including Hong Kong lunch breaks and German exchange interruptions.
