ESMA's MiCA Register Reveals 23 Authorized Stablecoin Issuers

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) maintains a public register of stablecoin issuers under the MiCA regulation. We downloaded this register on August 16, 2026, and found 23 authorized firms and 43 notified white papers.

However, one must be careful not to confuse the number of issuers with the number of tokens. While there are 23 companies, only a portion of these tokens are pegged to euros. In fact, several dollar tokens are also listed in the register, including USDC and eUSD.

The register itself does not contain a clean currency column, so one must look at the white paper addresses or product pages to determine the currency. This means that a headline claiming '23 authorized stablecoins in Europe' is inaccurate twice over - there are 23 companies, but only a portion of these tokens are euro-denominated.
