ETF Market Sees Record Pace of New Fund Launches

Share

The U.S. ETF market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with a record number of new fund launches in recent months.

According to data from Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs, approximately 390 new ETFs have been launched over the past two months, surpassing the previous record set in 2016.

Leveraged and inverse funds account for more than one-third of this year's launches, with derivatives powering 54% of new products. Fund managers have filed applications for over 1,000 leveraged products, indicating a focus on short-term trading tools linked to volatile industries such as stocks, cryptocurrencies, and artificial intelligence.

Regulatory changes, including the SEC's adoption of Rule 6c-11 in 2019, have simplified the process for issuers to bring new funds to market. As a result, U.S. ETF assets have reached $15.60 trillion in May, with domestic ETF assets increasing from $2.1 trillion in 2015 to $13.4 trillion by the end of 2025.
