ETH Rally Sparks Altcoin Optimism, But Conditions Not Yet Fully Supportive
Ethereum's recent rally has sparked hopes for an altcoin season, but market conditions are not yet fully supportive of this scenario. The cryptocurrency has gained about 31% in seven days to around $2,495, with some analysts suggesting it could lead the next leg higher if it breaks above $3,000.
The altcoin market is experiencing a surge in optimism, with 85% of altcoins reaching funding rates above their mean. This is the highest reading for this metric since Bitcoin was trading at all-time highs.
However, Ethereum's acceleration is not yet accompanied by broad participation from other altcoins. The BlockchainCenter index remains below the 75-point threshold required for an altcoin season, standing at 43. Bitcoin still dominates the market with over 59% of total value, while Ethereum accounts for just 11.4%.
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, believes that ETH could push toward $5,000 if it breaks above $3,000. He also expects Ethereum to outperform major assets during a liquidity-driven recovery and help reduce Bitcoin's dominance toward 40%. However, the strongest evidence currently points to an early-stage rotation rather than a full altcoin season.
