Ether.fi Splits Liquid Staking into Two Distinct Tokens

Ether.fi has made a significant change to its liquid staking protocol by separating staking and restaking functionalities. This means that users who hold weETH, Ether.fi's liquid staking token, will now only earn standard Ethereum staking rewards.

The introduction of weETHs as a separate token allows users to opt into the potentially higher-yielding but riskier restaking model if they choose. Previously, weETH holders were automatically exposed to both staking and restaking risks, regardless of their preference.

This overhaul addresses growing concerns about risk management in the restaking sector, where cascading failures could impact the broader Ethereum ecosystem. By decoupling staking from restaking, Ether.fi is acknowledging that not all users are comfortable with the added complexity and risk of restaking.
