Ether Outpaces Bitcoin in Weekly Gains Amid Uncertainty Over Altcoin Season
The cryptocurrency market has shown signs of improvement, but whether it's entering altcoin season remains uncertain. According to Bitget, Ethereum outperformed Bitcoin last week, gaining almost 29% in seven days compared to Bitcoin's weekly advance.
This momentum was also visible across broader market gauges, with TradingView's OTHERS index gaining about 19% over seven days on Aug. 26 and TOTAL3, which excludes Bitcoin and Ether, advancing roughly 15%. However, the OTHERS-to-Bitcoin ratio fell about 1.9% during the week.
The market has not yet crossed CoinMarketCap's formal altcoin-season threshold, as the platform defines it when 75% of eligible top-100 coins outperform Bitcoin over 90 days. Bitcoin remains the largest force in the market, with dominance near 59.7%, and its price structure keeps attention on the $80,000 level.
