Ethereum 2027 Upgrade to Allow Stablecoin Gas Fees
Ethereum is gearing up for a major upgrade in 2027 that could simplify transactions and make its network more user-friendly. The planned 'Hegotá' update will include EIP-8141, also known as Frame Transactions, which separates transaction authorization, fee payment, and execution into programmable components.
This design allows applications to handle gas payments, enabling users to spend stablecoins without first buying ETH for transaction fees. Currently, users must hold ETH to pay network fees, but with EIP-8141, a payments app could sponsor fees while accepting stablecoins from users.
Vitalik Buterin, one of the proposal's authors and Ethereum co-founder, highlighted recent progress on X. He noted that developers had quietly advanced the Frames design over recent months.
