Ethereum Abandons Poseidon for Post-Quantum Security as Robinhood Surpasses Ethereum in NFT Trading
The Ethereum Foundation has announced that it will be abandoning the Poseidon hash function for its Layer 1 roadmap, opting instead for SHA or BLAKE. This decision is seen as a significant step towards post-quantum security, with the foundation citing advances in binary-field SNARK design as the reason for this shift.
According to Ethereum researcher Justin Drake, the move will 'unlock ultimate security for lean Ethereum'. The shift away from Poseidon is not mandatory for rollups and other projects currently using it, but rather a roadmap decision aimed at improving Ethereum's security against quantum computers.
In other news, Robinhood Chain has surpassed Ethereum in NFT trading volume, with daily NFT trading on the chain reaching $3.13 million. This milestone marks a significant shift in liquidity patterns and highlights Robinhood's growing ambitions in the space.
