Ethereum Accused of Copying Cardano's Core Design
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has accused Ethereum of quietly copying its EUTXO logic after a new research design proposed native UTXO-style payments.
The proposal, written by Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter, aims to reduce Ethereum's state growth by treating simple payments as temporary, one-shot objects rather than permanent account-state entries.
Wahrstätter's plan builds on Frame Transactions and EIP-8141, and credits Vitalik Buterin with raising the topic. The approach could cut permanent state for payment workloads by about 99.8%, using roughly 0.3 bytes compared to the current 100-150 bytes per fresh account entry.
Hoskinson responded to Wahrstätter's proposal, stating that Ethereum developers are copying Cardano's Extended Unspent Transaction Output design without giving credit, saying 'EUTXO is the biggest innovation of the smart contract world and Ethereum cannot mention it as they literally try to copy it.'
