Ethereum Accused of Quietly Adopting Cardano's Core Design
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has accused Ethereum of copying its Extended Unspent Transaction Output (EUTXO) design, which underpins Cardano's smart contracts. In a recent post, Hoskinson claimed that Ethereum developers are quietly adopting the EUTXO model without giving credit to Cardano.
Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter published a design this week proposing one-shot payment objects to reduce Ethereum state growth. This approach is similar to Bitcoin's UTXO model, where each output is created once and spent once before leaving the active memory set.
Wahrstätter estimates that the EUTXO-style payments could cut permanent state for payment workloads by about 99.8%. However, Hoskinson believes that Ethereum developers are trying to copy Cardano's design without acknowledging it.
Hoskinson's complaint is not the first time that he has accused Ethereum of copying Cardano's ideas. He claims that mentioning Cardano is 'literally a crime' inside Ethereum circles and points to Cardano's past position as the third-largest asset on CoinMarketCap.
