Ethereum and Base Diverge on Account Abstraction Standards

The collaboration between Ethereum and Base on account abstraction standards has come to an end. The Frames talks broke down last week, leading to separate development paths for EIP-8130 and EIP-8141.

Ethlabs researcher Derek Chiang said that the joint effort between the two teams ended due to differences in their approaches to compliance and design priorities. Ethereum's focus on censorship resistance, privacy, openness, and security led to a different approach than Base's emphasis on scalability, customization, and compliance needs.

The EVM has traditionally provided common ground across Ethereum and its Layer 2 networks. However, separate standards may not necessarily create a poor outcome, as both sides can make improvements to their features to suit their own technical purposes.
