Ethereum and Base Part Ways on Unified Wallet Standard
The Ethereum and Base teams have abandoned their joint effort to create a unified wallet standard. Instead, they will continue to develop two separate account abstraction mechanisms: EIP-8141 and EIP-8130.
The decision was made after the authors attempted to create a common standard for both platforms, but talks ended last week due to differing requirements for the future mechanism.
Ethereum developers prioritized censorship resistance, privacy, and security, while Base focused on scalability, configurability, and regulatory compliance. The teams found several technical solutions, but each required one side to compromise on key goals.
