Ethereum and Base Split on Account Abstraction Standards After Frames Breakdown

Ethereum and Base have ended their joint efforts to develop account abstraction standards after Frames talks broke down last week.

The collaboration, which aimed to bring account abstraction features closer to the protocol level, has been abandoned due to differences in design priorities.

Ethlabs researcher Derek Chiang explained that Ethereum Layer 1 developers prioritize censorship resistance, privacy, openness, and security, while Layer 2 networks focus on scalability, customization, and compliance needs.

As a result, Base is working on EIP-8130, and Ethereum developers are focusing on EIP-8141, also known as Frame Transactions. Both proposals aim to provide account abstraction features but with different approaches.
